Benefits of working at UHS

We recently ran surveys and focus groups to find out what staff liked most about working at UHS. The top five responses were:

  • the exceptional education and training that the Trust can provide as a teaching hospital

  • the comprehensive benefits and employment package

  • the level of professional commitment within our teams

  • the quality of patient care and our staff members' pride in their work

  • our staff members' strong teamwork and partnership working.

As well as being part of a highly committed team who take pride in delivering the highest standard of patient care, there are a number of other benefits to working at UHS, including:

  • a highly supportive induction

  • excellent ongoing in-house and external training and development opportunities

  • a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata) on appointment

  • on-site nursery facilities (subject to availability)

  • flexible working opportunities – depending on your role, there may be opportunities to work from home, or for part-time working and annualised hours

  • onsite subsidised restaurants

  • incremental pay progression when you are on a permanent contract, with structured reviews and continued professional development

  • a generous pension scheme – head to NHS Employers for more details

  • discounts for local facilities such as gyms, and national discounts on everything from holidays to electricals as part of the Health Services Discounts scheme

  • key worker accommodation for staff in some job roles. See our pages about moving to Southampton to find out more about accommodation in Southampton.

Support for our staff

The wellbeing of our staff members is really important to us. The employee assistance programme (EAP) is available to all staff and their partners and children (aged 16 to 21) who are living at the same address. It's free to use and can be accessed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The EAP offers a range of support and advice including emotional support, counselling and legal and debt advice. They can help with both personal and workplace issues.
