How long you’ve been at UHS?

I have been at UHS a total of over 11.5 years, although I went to Hampshire Hospitals for 3.5 years inbetween. I started as an administrative assistant and as a receptionist, before moving to various roles in performance, pathology, and the IT (UHS Digital/Informatics) team. What has been consistent in each role is that I have always delivered projects, big and small.

What does your role entail?

I lead on the digital outpatient programme; leading the digital outpatient project team and planning the delivery of a number of digital projects across our outpatients' services. This includes our My Medical Record system, which I lead on the scale-up and implementation in various outpatient areas.

Any qualifications you have taken to upskill/progress your career/ tips and advice?

I have been very lucky with some fantastic managers who have helped me progress and given me training opportunities. My key qualification has been to become a chartered manager, and I completed the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) last year. I highly recommend taking up an apprenticeship opportunity, you can do this at any time and is fully funded by the Trust. I also have completed the NHS academy foundation leadership course (Edward Jenner), and PRINCE and Agile project management courses.

My tips would be to be positive in everything you do, to listen and learn, and empathise with staff and patients and understand their situation. Be friendly, kind, and respect others. Lastly, I would say to push boundaries, break the mould, and cause some trouble! Don't be afraid to ask questions and challenge, and don't choose the easy route! If you do it in the right way, your efforts will be appreciated and worthwhile.
