Staff spotlight: Senior charge nurse, Brooke ward

STAFF SPOTLIGHT (5)

Gany works as the ward lead for Brooke ward, a step-down ward in our trauma and orthopaedics department. The ward is run by collaborative teams offering both orthopaedic and orthogeriatric care. They won team of the month in January 2017 for having the highest patient feedback response rate in the Trust.

‘My career in orthopaedics started here, in this very same unit, 17 years ago. I was just working in the ward at first, before becoming a clinical coordinator and then finally being assigned as lead. It feels like I’ve really grown here, both professionally and personally.

‘It’s not always easy – our ward is like any other, with its challenges and pressures, but the team always work together to make sure our patients are happy and cared for. We’re skilled at communicating with other members of the multidisciplinary team – doctors, district nurses, community matrons and care providers. Our staff are able to follow the patient’s journey from admission to discharge, and so it’s important for us to ensure we have knowledge about how these things all work together.

‘I couldn’t have been prouder of my fantastic team when they won team of the month. Feedback from patients is really important to us, and to have our hard work recognised by the people we care for is an incredibly rewarding feeling.’
