Careers experience at UHS

Careers experience at UHS offers people within the SO postcode area the chance to find out what working at UHS is like, and about the many different professions within the NHS. Undertaking careers experience can enhance your CV and may help to support a university application.

At UHS, you’ll have the chance to shadow a professional in your chosen career - a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, biomedical scientist, or someone from one of the many other professions you’ll find at work across our Trust.

We offer work experience for a period of one to three days.

Who is it for?

Anyone who’s over the age of 16 and is looking for a chance to kick start their healthcare career is welcome to apply for careers experience at UHS.

Please note that many departments will only accept people who are 17 and older, and there may be other restrictions depending on the area you are interested in, so unfortunately we may be unable to give you a placement in your preferred area.

We’re only able to provide careers experience during the school holidays – any applications made during term time will not be accepted.

How do I apply for careers experience?

Please complete the application form and return it to careersexperience@uhs.nhs.uk, and our team will do their best to find you a suitable placement.

If you’d like your careers experience placement to be within the therapies department, you must email therapyworkexperience@uhs.nhs.uk with your completed form.

If you’ve been offered work experience with a department or individual directly, without speaking to the careers experience team, you must still complete and return the application form to our team, but please make it clear that you have already found your placement.
