COVID-19 RECRUITMENT FAQs

If I'm invited to an interview will I need to come to the hospital?

The majority of interviews are being conducted remotely using video calling, so you will not have to come to the hospital for your interview unless this is absolutely necessary. If you are invited for a remote interview, you will given all the information.

What if I'm worried about working in a hospital right now?

If you have any concerns then please speak to a member of the recruitment team who will be able to provide you with more details about how UHS is working to keep all patients, staff, and visitors as safe as possible during this time. If you decide that now isn’t the right time for you to join us we will understand and ask that you come back to us in the future when the time is right for you. 

Will I be in contact with COVID-19 patients?

Depending on your role with the Trust, you may be responsible for caring for COVID-19 positive patients directly or could be asked to do so in the future. If you have any concerns, please speak to a member of the recruitment team on 023 8120 6525 who will be able to discuss this with you.

Will I need to wear a face mask all day?

It is compulsory to wear a face mask at all times when in the hospital. That includes walking down the corridors or visiting one of the on-site shops. Depending on your role there may be other mandatory PPE you will be required to wear when working. 

Will face masks be provided?

Yes. We will provide your PPE; you do not need to bring your own face masks. 

How are BAME employees being supported during the COVID-19 pandemic?

UHS is proud to have a BAME Network of colleagues. Our senior leadership are working closely with the network to ensure their questions are answered and they are supported as needed. 

What if I'm at higher risk of COVID-19 due to an underlying health condition?

For some people with an underlying health condition, contracting COVID-19 may put them at a higher risk of complications than others. We have been managing these risks through a robust risk assessment process via our occupational health team who follow the latest government advice and guidance. If you are concerned about applying for a role and would like to know more about the measures we have put in place to keep staff, patients, and visitors as safe as possible, please contact the recruitment team to discuss this further.  

Will I be tested for COVID-19?

Depending on your role, it may be a requirement to be tested for COVID-19 before you join us and undergo routine tests when working to help keep patients and staff safe. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to a member of the recruitment team. 

Will I need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 upon joining UHS?

Yes. Our decisions continue to be guided by our UHS Trust values and our desire to put the safety and care of our patients first.  We’re therefore asking that all new colleagues upon joining our UHS to be appropriately vaccinated against COVID-19.

We recognise that some individuals may have a reason for exemption, such as disability or pregnancy related concerns. Each individual exemption case will be considered and we are very happy to discuss your personal circumstances with you when appropriate.
