A career in midwifery

As a centre of excellence for maternity care, we look after nearly 6,000 women and their families each year. We pride ourselves on putting women and babies first. They have a choice of birthing locations. From the tranquil surroundings of the New Forest Birth Centre (set in a national park just outside Southampton) to Broadlands Birthing Centre (a co-located midwifery led unit and our labour ward) and, as part of our varied midwifery led pathways, we also support home birth.

As a midwife you could choose to provide care within our midwifery led pathway, inclusive of community work. Or you might like to take the opportunity to work within our high risk obstetric led environment, which is linked with our tertiary fetal, maternal and neonatal medicine services.

We were the first maternity service to introduce consultant midwives and they now use their expertise to promote midwifery led care, sharing their knowledge, experience and best practice. You’ll be part of a strong team culture with our obstetric colleagues and our wider support staff to help deliver the most positive experience and outcomes for both mothers and babies.
