Job Title: Staff Nurse - C6 Teenage and Young Adult

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in the Wessex Regional Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Service covering a 12-month secondment based at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic staff nurse to help run the C6 Teenage and Young Adult inpatient and outpatient areas.

A dedicated age-appropriate facility for TYA patients (aged 16-24 years), funded by a charitable grant from the Teenage Cancer Trust, was opened at SGH in September 2013. It comprises of 6 inpatient beds and 4-day care areas. The Unit serves young adult patients in the Central South Coast Region, Dorset, and the Channel Islands. The post holder will be a pivotal member of the TYA multidisciplinary team which provides medical, social, psychological, and emotional support to this patient population.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high standard of individualised nursing care in accordance with agreed polices, through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for individual patients. 

The post will offer broad experience in the care of in-patients and out-patients in the management of the full range of malignancies observed in the TYA population including acute leukaemia’s, lymphomas, sarcomas, germ-cell tumours, brain tumour, and others that occur less commonly. 
In addition, the post holder will be involved in the supervised delivery of high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue and a range of clinical trials. 

Applicants should be able to deliver SACT administration along with experience in the care of oncology or haematology patients. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn and work within a multidisciplinary team in changing environment, together with adaptability to clinical and service requirements.
