Job overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Job Title: Business Support Team Lead
Contract Type: Permanent

Please be advised that this vacancy may close earlier than stated if we receive a large number of applications.

We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced and proactive individual who would like to work within a business admin and operational setting. We are looking for a business support team lead to provide administrative and coordinated support for multiple workstreams.

The role is primarily site-based with flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per week, subject to service requirements and team cover arrangements.

We are looking for someone who is pragmatic and can work with a high level of initiative and autonomy. This role is transitioning into the Business Unit structure under the Business and Operations Manager in Training, Development and Workforce (TD&W). Therefore, it’s a unique opportunity for the appointee to help shape and develop the function, influencing administrative processes and ways of working across the team.

The post has line management responsibility for the Business Support Administrator.

We can offer a dynamic and friendly working environment which looks for keen individuals who would like to develop personally, but also as part of a wider team.

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

What you’ll do

Support the Business and Operations Manager with financial and business administration activities, including the raising of requisitions and monitoring of purchase orders.

Coordinate and oversee the administrative requirements of the Trust's TRiM service in partnership with the Wellbeing and Staff Support Lead.

Cross-cover and shared responsibility with the Education Business Support team lead in terms of bookings and maintenance for education and wellbeing centre space.

Lead the maintenance and continuous improvement of administrative systems, templates, SharePoint sites, shared inboxes and Microsoft Teams channels to enhance efficiency and consistency.

Provide day-to-day leadership, support and development for the Business Support Administrator.

What we’re looking for

Someone who demonstrates initiative and a proactive approach to service improvement

Someone who can work autonomously but is also flexible to work as part of a larger business unit team

An adaptable and resilient approach in a changing environment

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Teams, SharePoint and Excel.

Someone who is looking to develop individually and as part of a wider team, bringing new ideas to the table
